Katahdin Woods & Waters National monument, Maine

Katahdin Woods & Waters is rooted in American history; it is the premiere example of northeastern Appalachian woodlands. Historic figures such as President Teddy Roosevelt, John James Audubon and Henry David Thoreau were some of the many noteworthy visitors who were swept away by the beauty, solitude and biodiversity with plant and animal life.

The Monument is filled with objects of historic and scientific interest, with opportunities for outdoor recreations, including snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
